KEY TAKEAWAYS
What Mitsubishi model could the D:X be representing?
The Mitsubishi D:X is likely representing the next-generation Delica. Is the Mitsubishi D:X Concept an electric vehicle?
Yes, the MPV concept is a plug-in hybrid vehicle."The Mitsubishi D:X Concept is a concept car that brings together the best of Mitsubishi Motors' technologies – our electrification and all-wheel control technologies in particular – with a view to realizing a carbon-neutral society," MMC President and Chief Executive Officer Takao Kato was quoted as saying.
We will continue to provide fulfilling mobility lifestyles that awaken the adventurous spirit of drivers and provide excitement for everyone on board,” he added.
In creating the latest concept vehicle, Mitsubishi combined the interior design of a multi-purpose vehicle, road-handling features of a sport utility vehicle, and performance of a plug-in hybrid.
Taking cues from the Delica, the Mitsubishi D:X Concept comes with side window graphics that extend from the front of the cabin to the D-pillar.
It also wears the dynamic shield front face design, T-shaped lights, large-diameter tires housed in over fenders, skid plates at the front and rear, and side step protectors.
Inside, the minibox cabin ensures ample room ensures a wide view for optimal driving. Its panoramic seats, which can be moved up and down, and rotated, helps provide a high eye position for better forward visibility. Meanwhile, the see-through hood, which extends from the front window glass to the bottom, shows road surface conditions ahead and the turn angle of the front tires.
The concept vehicle also comes with a voice-interactive artificial intelligence concierge that gives information on routes to destinations, weather conditions and other usable information for a stress-free driving experience.
Seats and the instrument panel are covered with tan-colored leather while the metal parts are in alumite gray.
Its sound system — developed in collaboration with Yamaha Corporation — gives out a three-dimensional sound, thanks to the speakers that are positioned in the headrests and other strategic locations.
Despite the monobox design, the Mitsubishi D:X Concept provides the ride of a standard passenger vehicle as Super All-Wheel Control adopted for the electric four-wheel-drive system.
Powering the Mitsubishi D:X Concept is a PHEV system that comes with different drive modes — including an EV mode for daily use and hybrid mode for long distance travels.
