Kia Picanto: Features explained
Kia Motors is a South Korean car company and the second largest car manufacturer in the region. There must be solid reasons as to why this brand is almost at the top, right? Kia has got extensive experience in making cars.
Kia Philippines, it has got a good product lineup out of which only two are hatchbacks - Kia Rio and Kia Picanto. The latter is our today’s point of interest. This 5-seater hatchback has been designed to target the young generation of the country.
It’s very dynamic and attractive. The Kia Picanto price starts at Php 635,000 for the base model and there are three variants in total. Let’s have a look at a few of the interesting features of the Picanto.
Exterior features
Gorgeous headlamps
As we mentioned earlier, the Picanto is primarily designed keeping in mind the youth of the country. And it’s quite clear from the way each element of this car is designed and put together. Check out its gorgeous headlamps.
They are projector units and come with LED daytime running lights. A complete headlamp assembly is extremely stylish and lively. It is one of the best-looking hatchbacks available in the Philippines right now.
LED-type rear tail lamps
The rear tail lamps of the Picanto are one of those parts of the car that help you to recognize it. It’s not just the design of the tail lamp assembly, it’s the signature C-shape LED strip inside that works wonders. It’s fantastic. You can quickly make out that it’s Kia Picanto.
Attractive alloy wheels
The side profile of the Picanto has boosted up thanks to the stylish and attractive set of alloy wheels. They have a very dynamic feel to them and look lively and fresh. They match the overall theme and character of the car perfectly. Kia has done a great job here.
Red accents on the outside
The GT Line variant of the Kia Picanto is very sporty to look at. And to enhance the sportiness, Kia has used red accents on various parts of the car’s body. At the front, you’d notice a light touch of red in the grille. Red is also a part of the front bumper.
The side part of the car gets a red strip at the bottom skirt. The same treatment goes at the back just above the diffuser. The whole idea of using these red treatments here and there is great. It brings a good contrast and makes the Picanto look much more attractive.
Interior features
All-black theme
We always appreciate the use of black in the interior of a car. It’s sportier and classy than the other options, say beige. Kia has done just that with its Picanto. The all-black theme suits the car’s youthful stance and perhaps, would bring out your younger generation out as well.
Red in the interior
Kia has continued to use red color as its magic tool to make things even more desirable. The GT Line model has got a noticeable amount of red in its interior. Red stitching is seen on the steering wheel, inside door panels, and seats.
You will also find a couple of red stripes on the seats and doors. The background lighting of every sign, font, or symbol is red. It might be a bit overdone for a few people, but we really like it.
Audio system
The Kia Picanto specs list an optional audio system that includes a monochrome TFT LCD screen, radio, AUX and USB inputs. This is one of the features of the Picanto that we thought needed an upgrade.
Things would have been so much better if Kia would’ve provided a decent-sized touchscreen infotainment system with the integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Sporty steering
If you’re an enthusiast then you’d like the steering wheel of the Picanto quite a lot. It’s really good to hold and gives you a sporty feeling. It comes with a few mounted controls.
Engine
There are two engine options available with the Picanto. One, a 1.0-litre Kappa engine with 67 PS of max power and 95 Nm of peak torque. It comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The other engine is a 1.2-litre Kappa unit that produces 85 PS at 6000 rpm and 121 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. You only get a 4-speed automatic transmission with this mill.
Safety features
It’s a bit disappointing to know that Kia has skipped on a lot of safety features in the Picanto. You get the very basic ones like dual front airbags and ABS. Even these are not standard across the range. They come with the top-of-the-line GT Line model.
So, there you go, guys. These were some of the key features of the Picanto. Let us know what do you think about the car and don’t hesitate to remind us of any feature that we’d missed. The Kia Picanto colors available in the Philippines include 11 options- Orange, Blue, Titanium Silver, Aurora Black, Clear White, Shiny Red, Light Yellow, Alice Blue, Honey Bee, Milky Beige, and Sparkling Silver.
