Lamborghini makes face shields and surgical masks for Coronavirus (COVID-19) frontliners

MANILA: Currently, the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic in Italy is also where the Automobili Lamborghini is situated. Thus, Stefano Domenicali, CEO and chairman of the super sports car maker, decided to transform its production facility in Sant’Agata Bolognese to manufacture protective plexiglass shields and surgical masks. The medical equipment shall be donated to the health workers of the Sant’Orsola-Malpighi Hospital in Bologna to aid in combatting the coronavirus pandemic.

The saddlery staff, who usually handle the stitching of the leather interiors and specialized customization for Lamborghini cars, will carry out this task of manufacturing 1,000 masks daily. The personnel in the Research and Development Department will utilize 3D printers of the carbon-fiber manufacturing facility to generate 200 face shields per day. The masks and face shields will be given to the first responders and medical employees of the hospital.

Lamborghini also partnered with the University of Bologna for this task. Before its distribution to the hospital, the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences will supervise the validation testing of medical equipment produced by the Lamborghini facility.

Domenicali also stated that during this crisis, they felt the need to make a significant contribution. He mentioned the working partnership of the company with S. Orsola-Malpighi Hospital for several years through technical consultation. The collaboration also involves the implementation of initiatives to ensure the safety of staff and in research projects. Through the protective shields and surgical masks that they will be producing, Lamborghini will be able to show its support for the medical frontliners of the S. Orsola-Malighi Hospital.

Moreover, Lamborghini illuminates its buildings in Sant’Agata Bolognese every night in the Italian flag colors. This is its way of showing support and unity as the entire country faces pandemic.
