Lamborghini recovers 51% of 'special waste' in 2021, declares support for Global Recycling Day

MANILA: Lamborghini expressed its support for Global Recycling Day. Celebrated during March 18, the Global Recycling Day was established by the Global Recycling Foundation in 2018 to promote recycling as it plays an important role in protecting our natural resources, cutting CO2 emissions, and securing the future of our planet.  Lamborghini received ISO 14001 accreditation for the first time in 2009, and a waste upcycling project was implemented across the Sant'Agata Bolognese plant in Italy  in the same year.

Any leather that does not pass the quality control process, as well as any offcuts that cannot be used due to their size or the presence of minor inherent faults, is considered a raw material. They can be repurposed as small-scale personalized leather goods, giving them  new life. This project grew out of a collaboration with the Cooperativa Cartiera in Marzabotto, which upcycles leather and fabric by-products that would otherwise end up in landfills. Social inclusion, exquisite workmanship, and ecological responsibility are all values that the organization upholds with zeal. The "Upcycled Leather Project" has unveiled its first four products: a tote bag, a smartphone case, a cardholder, and a key ring. They are all engraved with the shield logo and the words "Reduce, reuse, recycle" and are available at lamborghinistore.com and via Lamborghini dealers.

Carbon fiber composite materials are used extensively by Lamborghini in the production of their vehicles. It is possible to recycle the waste produced during the usage of these refined materials. Lamborghini has been recovering carbon fiber scraps in research and development programs for a number of years in order to recycle the material and maximize its lightweight and mechanical performance in vehicle parts. Since 2020, the company has recovered nearly 27 tons of carbon fiber waste which could not be used for anything else. Materials are also donated to training organizations like the Experis Academy in Fornovo di Taro and university associations like Bologna Motorsport, which use them for educational purposes during the training of new technicians and engineers. This kind of material recycling occurs in parallel with the production of small-scale merchandise and accessories for Lamborghini events and customers in order to gain knowledge and test new technologies and processes that can later be applied to automotive parts.

One of the cornerstones of Lamborghini's corporate strategy is sustainability, which leads to increased awareness and responsibility among all employees in all divisions. Lamborghini's environmental policy is an important part of a business plan that considers every aspect of operating a company in a community. Over time, there has been a developing commitment to ideas, programs, and activities aimed at making the organization more environmentally friendly. The comprehensive vision and all-encompassing methods are applied across a 160,000-sqm area that has been CO2-neutral since 2015. This has remained the case even after the industrial facility grew in size in recent years.
