What are the technologies available in Lamborghini's Telemetry X project?
Lamborghini's Telemetry X features real-time remote garage (remote coaching), biometric data system, and digital co-pilot technologies.Where did Lamborghini first use the telemetry system?
The super sports car manufacturer first used the technology on the Huracán STO.Dubbed the “Telemetry X”, the track connectivity concept was presented at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024.
“Innovation is at the core of our DNA, as we have recently demonstrated with the Revuelto, a super sports car that is groundbreaking in every way, and the Lanzador fully-electric concept car. In the near future, our supercars will increasingly offer not just thrills but truly immersive driving experiences,” Automobili Lamborghini Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Stephan Winkelmann was quoted as saying.
“Telemetry X is a perfect preview of the connected services our customers will be able to experience in the coming years,” he added.
To note, Lamborghini first used the application of racing-derived digital technologies on the Huracán STO.
The vehicle manufacturer shared that with the Telemetry X, it expects a future track driving experience based on the synergy of three systems: real-time remote garage (remote coaching), biometric data system, and digital co-pilot.
“Telemetry X is a clear demonstration of how experience gained in motorsport can find applications for road-going super sports cars, with the aim of maximizing our customers’ experience on the track as well,” Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr noted.
“It’s no coincidence that we chose the Revuelto as the testbed for this technological demonstrator, a car that is totally unique precisely because of the introduction of breakthrough technologies.”
Thanks to 5G technology, the remote garage web application allows drivers to have real-time video recordings of their on-track performance and telemetry available at all times. Anywhere in the world, a coach can monitor the driver through live data and images and give customer-driver feedback and suggestions during the driving session.
Meanwhile, the biometric data system observes the driver’s biometric data, including heart rate and stress level, to allow more in-depth performance monitoring and provide useful references on how they can refine their training.
Lastly, the two systems are synergized with the digital co-pilot — a proactive voice assistant that compares both biometric and vehicle data to give feedback to the pilot while driving on the track. The firm said that the technology analyzes lap times and provides pointers for improving racing lines and braking points, as well as information on the performance of the car on the track.
