Until when is the installation displayed at ICA Miami?
The installation is on display until December 17, 2023.How does the installation work?
The sculpture uses solar power to generate energy from the OPV sheets throughout the day. The solar cells store energy in batteries that are subtly hidden inside the base of the sculpture. The continuous absorption gradually ends, building up a reservoir of solar energy that supports the sculpture's fascinating features.Dutch solar designer Marjan van Aubel used solar cells to reimagine the concept car as an interactive experience.
“We are honored to work with a solar design pioneer as esteemed as van Aubel. Her singular vision and expertise have built a remarkable installation that illuminates the design essence of the LF-ZC concept and her dedication to human-first, sustainable design is something we share and value dearly. It's thrilling to see this sculpture come alive in the garden at ICA Miami,” Lexus Global Marketing Head Brian Bolain stated.
Named after the duration it takes for sunlight to reach the earth, “8 Minutes and 20 Seconds” transforms the LF-ZC into a graphic pattern design in a true-to-size model of the concept car using organic photovoltaics (OPV), third-generation solar cells that are transparent and full of color.

A soothing music pervades the installation, combining gentle piano notes, comforting string instruments, and chimes that blend nicely with the surroundings. The tune is intermittently complemented with birdsong and other sound elements. The original car's interior bamboo material is subtly referenced in the melody as woody bamboo notes are introduced at certain times, bringing its essence into the listening experience.
The “8 Minutes and 20 Seconds” installation, which is on display until December 17, marks Lexus' second year of collaboration with ICA Miami and the brand's sixth immersive event during Miami Art and Design Week. By working together and showcasing impeccable exhibits, Lexus and ICA Miami are dedicated to creating experiences that encourage visitors to reflect on the boundless possibilities of creative design.
