Lotus and Williams Advanced Engineering to develop new powertrains
MANILA: The British carmaker, Lotus has come together with Williams Advanced Engineering to research and develop advanced propulsion technologies. Lotus has been quiet since the launch of Exige in 2012 and only emphasised on the special editions of the existing lineup.
Elise and Evora are running well in the markets and the manufacturer has not made any announcements regarding a new launch or even an update. While the automobile market is optimistically accepting the electric future, Lotus has not brought any other offering after the Evora 414E.
The partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering may bring a change, though. Phil Popham, CEO of Lotus Cars said about the partnership, “Our new technology partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering is part of a strategy to expand our knowledge and capability in the rapidly changing automotive landscape.
Applying advanced propulsion powertrains can provide numerous exciting solutions across multiple vehicle sectors. Our combined and complementary experiences make this a very compelling match of engineering talent, technical ability and pioneering British spirit.”
The press release clearly says that the two automotive experts will share research and development of “advanced propulsion technologies”. Lightweight construction by Lotus and electric powertrains by Williams Advanced Engineering should be a deadly combination, right?
While no more details about the partnership are told, we expect the two experts to develop some advanced electric powertrains. The next-gen Elise and the first ever SUV by Lotus are expected to feature these new powertrains.
Craig Wilson, Managing Director of Williams Advanced Engineering said, “Williams Advanced Engineering takes great pride in delivering innovation for our customers at a rapid pace of development,
born from our Formula One heritage. We will be further developing next generation powertrains in this partnership with Lotus.” This partnership is certainly an indication that some exciting future lies ahead for sure.
