Lotus Evija electric hypercar gets 1,973hp in Track mode
MANILA: Whoever said driving an electric car is boring has certainly never glanced at the specs of Lotus’ upcoming all-electric hypercar, the Evija.
Currently doing testing at the 3.5-kilometer Lotus track at Hethel, England, the Evija, while a hypercar, is designed with genuine everyday usability.
Lotus shared a few details about Britain’s first all-electric hypercar — and arguably the most powerful series production road car ever built.
It comes with five driving modes: Range, City, Tour, Sport, and Track.
In Range mode, output is limited to 986hp and 800Nm of torque. It intelligently switches the Evija from four-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive to maximize the distance available from the battery and its intelligent power management system.
While in City mode, the Evija provides greater power control and decreases the level of regenerative braking.
Switching onto Tour mode, the Evija automatically shifts between four-wheel or rear-wheel drive all while delivering over 1,381hp of power with torque-vectoring.
On Sport mode, the driver gets 1,677hp and 1,700Nm of torque linked to stability control systems to increase traction levels.
If that isn’t enough, enter Track mode. In its most extreme form, power is boosted to a maximum 1,973hp while also delivering the highest level of torque-vectoring with the Evija’s Drag Reduction System (DRS), which is available on request. The chassis setting is also automatically switched to Track.
The battery pack of the Evija is located immediately behind the two seats to create optimum weight distribution and makes the Evija exceptionally maneuverable as it hits its top speed of more than 322kph.
“Lotus cars are very nimble, inspiring great confidence when being driven, and the Evija is no different to that,” said Lotus Director of Vehicle Attributes Gavan Kershaw,.
