Lotus partners with Britishvolt for carmaker's electric SUV
MANILA: Lotus announced its future EV lineup — which includes an SUV — and the brand's partnership with Britishvolt for EV battery production.

Britishvolt will produce the battery cells, while Lotus will build the electric motor.“Lotus is delighted to be collaborating with Britishvolt to develop new battery cell technology," Lotus Managing Director Matt Windle expressed.
In a release, Lotus said the partnership follows its £100-million investment in EV production. Windle also revealed that more Lotus EVs will be introduced soon.
“Last year we committed Lotus to a pure-electric future, and... in the coming months we will be unveiling the Type 132, an all-new and all-electric Lotus SUV and we’ve confirmed three more EVs are on the way," the Lotus executive said.
Lotus and Britishvolt will co-develop a battery cell package to power the future Lotus EVs, including the sports car in the teaser image. The package will combine the cells from the battery cell producer, and electric motor from the British sports car maker.
The two companies' project will benefit from the close proximity of Lotus and Britishvolt’s R&D centers in West Midlands, UK. The Lotus Advanced Technology Centre (LATC) opened in Wellesbourne in 2020 as the global headquarters of Lotus Engineering, the consultancy division of the business.
