LTFRB announces fare matrix for EDSA Busway

MANILA: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) declared that travelers would now be required to pay fare when using the EDSA (Epifanio delos Santos Avenue) Busway after its Libreng Sakay (Free Ride) program expired on December 31, 2022.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much is the fare of buses plying the EDSA Busway?

The fares range from P15 to P75, depending on the distance travelled between stops.
  • The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) announced on Facebook that as of January 1, 2023, the buses in the aforementioned public transportation system are now running under the fare box scheme utilizing the authorized matrix.

Approximately 550 public utility buses (PUBs) from the consortiums may operate in the EDSA Busway to give service to the general public, according to the transport regulating agency.

The LTFRB also announced that additional point-to-point buses from the consortiums operating on the EDSA Busway will be replaced by vehicles that adhere to the same standards as other PUB vehicles operating on the same route. The agency highlighted that vehicles that will be replaced must first apply for a special permission before operating on the EDSA Busway.

All PUB units that will operate on the EDSA Busway must have the fare guide in order to be able to charge customers the appropriate prices, according to the LTFRB.
