Per LTFRB, the crackdown on non-consolidated PUVs began in May 16.In a press release, the country’s land transport franchising bureau noted that the Land Transportation Office, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and Philippine National Police have started flagging down unconsolidated PUVs since May 16.
To aid the aforementioned agencies in the crackdown on PUVs that did not join the country’s push for transport vehicle integration, all the records of non-consolidated units are provided to outfits tasked with enforcing the directive.
Meanwhile, re-consolidated jeepneys are reminded to display their franchise documents on their dashboard or windshields to avoid apprehension.
“Authorities will check the serial number on the document issued by the LTFRB displayed on their jeepneys during the operations that started on May 16,” the LTFRB noted.
To note, the allotted time for drivers and operators to join the consolidation — under the Public Transport Modernization Program — ended on April 30, after several suspensions. A 15-day grace period was granted to PUV owners to modernize by joining cooperatives.
Penalties awaiting violators include a one-year suspension for the driver, a P50,000 fine for the operator, and vehicle impoundment for 30 days.
