MANILA: The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has reminded transport vehicle owners, operators, and drivers of the deadline for the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) industry consolidation deadline.

Until then, public utility vehicle (PUV) operators and drivers who want to take part in the PUVMP can still join or establish a cooperative group.
The LTFRB has outlined a short list of requirements for those looking to join the public transport modernization movement. Below are the needed documents:
- Latest Land Transportation Office Official Receipt and Certificate of Registration
- Security and Exchange Commission Certificate of Registration or Certification (for corporations)
- Cooperative Development Authority Registration or Office of Transportation Cooperatives Certification (for cooperatives)
- Affidavit of Conformity, which states that an individual operator agrees to have his or her unit and franchise to be included in a cooperative or a corporation
For those who do not know, the government’s PUVMP program aims to make the country’s public transport system “more dignified, humane, and on par with global standards.” In addition, the said initiative also aims to give a comfortable life for all Filipinos by providing “a safer, more efficient, reliable, convenient, affordable, climate-friendly, and environmentally sustainable transportation system in the country.”
On that note, various automobile companies have put forth their modern public vehicle offerings, including brands like Hyundai, Fuso, Isuzu, and Hino.
Examples of modern public transport vehicles, that are currently in operation in various cities in the Philippines, include the Hyundai HD50S GT Modern PUV Class 4, the Fuso Canter Commute Class 2, and the Isuzu NLR PUV.
