According to the agency, it looks to complete its motorcycle license plate backlog by June 2025.In a recent press conference, a representative of the agency noted that the LTO has set a target to catch up on its driver’s license issuance by June 2024 — a month earlier than what the bureau’s Chief promised President Marcos Jr. not too long ago.
During the presser, it was revealed that the LTO is finding means to procure additional printers used for producing license cards. A proposal was also filed to purchase 365 (card printers) more.
When it comes to the releasing of license plates, it was explained by the same representative that the LTO is experiencing no backlogs for motor vehicles.
However, the land transport outfit is still dealing with pileups for motorcycle number plates, understandably due to the fast-moving pace of motorcycle sales. It can also be recalled that the department has launched a nationwide crackdown on unregistered vehicles — most of which (according to LTO’s records) are motorcycles — possibly contributing to the increased demand for motorcycle plate manufacturing.
The agency’s target for completing the said backlog is by June 2025.
To meet the target, the license plate-making facility that produces the said number plates operates 24 hours a day — which now yield some 48,000 plates daily.
