MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) ordered all regional directors to ensure the road worthiness of all the passenger buses that will ferry commuters going to their respective hometowns for the observance of the All Saints’ and All Souls Day.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How is the LTO ensuring the safety of those who will take passenger buses this long weekend?

The LTO is conducting random drug tests on bus drivers and conductors and urged operators to check the roadworthiness of units.
  • What is the LTO's hotline number for those who want to report any misbehavior on the road?

Mendoza urged the public to report any misbehavior on the road through the “Aksyon on the Spot” 09292920865.
  • The order covered the implementation of random drug tests on bus drivers and conductors.

“We expect the bus companies to do their part in ensuring safe travel for our kababayan (fellowmen). On the part of the LTO, the intervention is on the inspection of passenger buses and the conduct of random and surprise drug testing,” Mendoza noted.

The LTO chief also urged the public to plan their travel — especially those who will commute to and from their respective provinces, and particularly those heading to the areas affected by the recent weather disturbances.

Following the declaration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for a half-day of work in all government offices, Mendoza shared that the department will deploy LTO personnel to assist in traffic management.

“Our personnel will be there on major thoroughfares in coordination with other agencies like the Philippine National Police. Our goal is to ensure that this year’s Undas will be peaceful, safe and hassle-free to all our kababayan,” Mendoza said.

He also urged commuters to report any misbehavior on the road through “Aksyon on the Spot” 09292920865.

Aside from checking the essential parts of vehicles, he also advised everyone to maintain cool heads while on the roads.

Thousands of motorists are expected to troop to the provinces to observe the annual All Saints and All Souls’ Day, one of the important annual activities for the Filipinos.
