LTO apprehends over 6k vehicles under 'No Registration, No Travel' policy

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office has apprehended 6,064 vehicles during the first five days of its continued implementation of the “No Registration, No Travel” policy.

During the first 15 days of June 2024, 6,064 vehicles were apprehended under the No Registration, No Travel policy.As the LTO shared, 5,470 of the recorded apprehensions were given violation tickets. Meanwhile, 918 vehicles were impounded. Of the total number of apprehensions, 5,127 were motorcycles. The rest were four-wheeled vehicles, with 34 being passenger jeepneys and seven being passenger buses.
According to the LTO, its enforcers made the aforementioned number of apprehensions in the first 15 days of June 2024. As a reminder, the implementation of the said policy was started in 2023, but its strict enactment was ramped up at the start of 2024.
Given the significant number of motorists caught under the initiative, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II emphasized that it is each driver's personal responsibility to renew their expired motor vehicle registrations.
“The renewal of the registration is not only an obligation to the government, it is also an obligation to yourself and your family because doing so would compel you to ensure the road worthiness of your motor vehicles, for your safety, for the safety of your loved ones,” Mendoza said.
“Huwag sana tayong magsisi na naman sa huli kung ano dapat ang ginawa. Mataaas ang penalty at may kasama pang impound. Pero ang mas matindi dito at kung ang pagsasawalang-bahala natin ay mauwi sa aksidente (Let's not regret what should have been done in the end. The penalty is high, and it includes vehicle impounding. But what is more serious here is if our negligence results in an accident,)" Mendoza added.
As per Mendoza, the LTO will continue to strictly enforce the said policy in accordance with the road safety instruction of the Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista. Mendoza likewise reminded motorists with expired registrations to renew immediately.
