LTO introduces online platform for TDC

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has launched an online platform for its Theoretical Driving Course (TDC). The aforementioned project is a part of the Philippine government’s current mission to digitalize its services.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Does the Online Theoretical Driving Course accept online payments?

Yes, the Online Theoretical Driving Course can accept online payments.
  • Who is the current LTO chief?

The current LTO chief is Atty. Vigor Mendoza II.
  • According to LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Menzoda II, the Online Theoretical Driving Course (OTDC), will provide a more convenient way for clients to secure a TDC certificate, which is one of the requirements for getting a driver's license.

“This will provide a flexible and accessible learning experience which our Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has been pushing under the Bagong Pilipinas,” Mendoza said.

Via the new online service, LTO can refer its applicants to its list of accredited driving schools. Overseas Filipino workers are likewise welcome to use the new Internet-based platform for the agency’s TDC.

The portal allows users to sign up for the TDC program and pay. Applicants can then take the associated exam for the course, which is needed to apply for a student permit.

Furthermore, the agency has fielded measures to make all transactions on the online service scam-free.

“We are employing technology-aided solution to ensure that the person taking the course is indeed the driver’s license applicant,” Mendoza added.

Currently, the LTO is working on promoting the availability of the OTDC. Mendoza himself has directed the agency’s personnel to disseminate information about the new online service through social media.

“It is imperative that all applicants are made fully aware of this accredited online option, which is designed to enhance the convenience and efficiency of obtaining a Student Drivers Permit,” Mendoza shared.

Other new initiatives launched by the LTO include a courier service for delivering plastic-printed driver’s license cards. The said service is available via the agency’s AksyON THE SPOT Viber channel.

Last month, the agency also began its crackdown on delinquent dealerships who continuously fail to release vehicle license plates and official receipt/certificate of registration papers on time.
