Lunaz converts classic Aston Martin DB6 into US$1-M EV

MANILA: Production of the electric Aston Martin DB6 by Lunaz has begun. The DB6 is a classic GT made by the British auto marque, and is now being restored and re-engineered as an EV, which will be offered for an estimated US$1 million or beyond.

Lunaz Design is a British company that restores and converts classic cars into EVs, "to preserve these most significant objects" amid environmental change and "legislative pressure." It has electrified classic cars from Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Range Rover, and Jaguar

“The introduction of electric Aston Martin DB6 cars has been driven by sustained demand from our existing clients. It also reflects the desires of an entirely new classic car buyer," Founder and CEO of Lunaz Group David Lorenz said.

Following the confirmation of orders for the DB6 electric, Lunaz will now offer to clients across the globe limited examples of the car, both in left- and right-hand drive formats.

The design company said the "exact prices will be communicated privately (to customers) on application but exceeds US$1 million plus local taxes." First deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter of 2023.

To create the DB6 by Lunaz, an original DB6 will undergo an exhaustive bare-metal restoration and re-engineering process. The original car will be a "concourse-level vehicle "that addresses the key requirements of usability, reliability and sustainability." Lunaz aims to be the leaders of the classic EV market.

Driveability will be ensured through the modification of brakes, suspension, and steering. The car will be powered by Lunaz’ modular electric powertrain, developed entirely in-house and with European-sourced Tier 1 OEM battery cells and motors.

All current Lunaz vehicles' battery capacity ranges from 80 to 120kWh, capable of 255 miles (410 kilometers) of range. Every car by Lunaz is equipped with CCS fast-charging capability.

To keep things modern inside, the DB6 by Lunaz will be fitted with air-conditioning, latest infotainment, navigation systems, and full Wi-Fi connectivity. The interior will be "free from animal-derived materials."

All EVs by Lunaz are engineered, computer-designed, and crafted at the company’s home in Silverstone, England. Over 100 restoration specialists and craftspeople, including a former Formula 1 engineer and Aston Martin designer, will work on the company's creations.

Aside from the DB6, Lunaz will also work on the DB4 and DB5.

“The  DB6 delivered on the promise of truly indulgent continental touring. Its lines marry dynamic purpose with generous proportions. This is a legacy we could not resist furthering by creating the most alluring electric car in the world. We are proud to introduce the quintessential British GT, remastered for a new generation,” Design Director of Lunaz Jen Holloway said.
