The 2024 Shell Eco-marathon APME is held for the third consecutive time in Indonesia. At the said competition, the seven Filipino teams faced off against 71 other groups from universities all across Asia and the Middle East via a race at the Mandalika International Circuit in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
Contrary to the fast-paced wheel-to-wheel action of traditional circuit-based motorsports, the Shell Eco-marathon APME mainly focuses on achieving the most fuel-efficient run on the racetrack.
The yearly eco-friendly race has two classes. The first is a Prototype class with vehicles running three wheels and maximized for aerodynamics and efficiency, while the second is the Urban Concept class, which involves four-wheeled vehicles with road-worthy specifications.
In the eco-race, teams are allowed to choose between three energy categories: battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and internal combustion (ICE).
