Mazda 3 TCR race car is a jaw-dropping commodity
MANILA: We all are fans of the Mazda3, aren’t we? The Japanese automaker has always enticed us with its design philosophies, and the all-new Mazda 3 is no exception. The sensuous hatchback follows the automaker’s “Kodo” design language and makes many of its competitors bite the dust just by its looks. The hatch doesn't lag in terms of power, features, and tech either. But, could the new Mazda 3 be even better? The answer according to Mazda is, yes.
Coming out straight from the facilities of Mazda Design America is the Mazda 3 TCR, which is a race car that is based on the standard 2020 Mazda 3. For starters, the changes on the Mazda 3 TCR include a vented hood, front splitter, centre-exit exhaust, wide fender flares, large spoiler, side skirts, and a rear diffuser. Moreover, the hatchback now sits lower than the standard model and rides on Volk Racing TE37s.
All the visual changes make the Mazda 3 TCR look like a total beautiful beast, right? However, the changes made on the hatchback by the automaker were mandatory in order to meet the TCR regulations. Now this is a perfect example of the idiom "kill two birds with one stone meaning", isn't it? Not only did the automaker made the Mazda 3 TCR complaint but it also gave it an astonishingly appealing appearance.
Powering the Mazda 3 TCR is an inline-four turbocharged engine that makes 350 hp of maximum power. The mill is mated to a six-speed transmission that channels the power to the front wheels. And yeah, there are paddle-shifters as well.
Two Mazda 3 TCRs will take on many other competitors at the 2020 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge for Mazda Motorsport. Mazda will also be selling these Mazda 3 TCR, however, the price remains a mystery for now.
