Mazda MX-5 Miata tops Consumer Reports Most Reliable Car list

MANILA: When choosing a car, some of the more popular determining factors, besides price, are fuel efficiency, overall look, performance, infotainment, and most important of all, reliability. Maybe that is why Filipinos tend to stick to more popular, established automakers than gamble with new emerging car brands that they know so little about despite pompous specs.

So what is the most reliable new car you can buy? According to Consumer Reports’ Annual Auto Survey, it’s the Mazda MX-5 Miata. The Miata is powered by a 2.0-Liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder with VVT capable of producing 181 Hp of maximum power at 7000 rpm and 205 Nm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. 

Consumer Reports determines the ‘reliability’ of a car by looking at the most common complaints and several other factors in order to come up with a Predicted Reliability Score. The score is then compared with data collected from track testing, safety data, and their own owner-satisfaction survey results. Compounded together, they are able to come up with an Overall Score. 

Here are the top 10 most reliable new cars for 2020, according to Consumer Reports:

4. 2020 Lexus GX
5. 2020 Hyundai Kona
6. 2020 Mazda CX-3
7. 2020 Lexus NX
8. 2020 Toyota 4Runner
9. 2020 Mazda CX-9
10. 2020 Lexus GS

In contrast, here are the 10 least reliable vehicles for 2020:

1. Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon (same body style, different badging)
2. Chevrolet Camaro
3. Jeep Wrangler
4. Alfa Romeo Giulia
5. Volkswagen Atlas
6. Volkswagen Tiguan
7. Acura MDX
8. Tesla Model X
9. Chrysler Pacifica
10. Chevrolet Traverse

The study surveyed more than 400,000 current-generation vehicles made within the past three years so being in the top 10 alone is truly an added laurel and prestige for any car maker.
