Mazda is committed to achieving its medium-term goal by implementing its existing policies and working methodically in accordance with its roadmap.

The company considers achieving carbon neutrality as one of its primary management policy goals for the next seven years. It will concentrate on three key areas to attain carbon neutrality across all of its global plants: energy conservation, transitioning to renewable energy, and launching carbon neutral fuels.

Internal carbon pricing will be included as one of the capital investment requirements for energy saving. Therefore, initiatives that have a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions will be given priority in investment decisions.

Mazda is also committed to upgrading technology across all divisions, including production and indirect departments like infrastructure.

Regarding the introduction of renewable energy, Mazda plans to replace the fuel used to supply the power generation facilities of MCM Energy Service Corporation at the Hiroshima plant with liquid ammonia, while also using corporate power purchase agreements signed with other local parties, and increasing the purchase of sustainable energy that comes from non-fossil fuels from power companies.

With these strategies, Mazda aims to attain a 75-percent non-fossil fuel power utilization ratio by 2030.

The company's fleet will also be powered by a next-generation biofuel instead of diesel to introduce carbon neutral fuels. J-credits will be used to promote forestry preservation and re-forestry in the Chugoku region and other regions where generating power from other fuel sources is challenging.

“Mazda will move forward with carbon neutral initiatives in line with our plans to contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and the prevention of global warming across all of our processes including manufacturing transportation, usage, and recycling/disposal, as we believe that such efforts are a core responsibility of automotive manufacturers,” Mazda Motor Corporation Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer Takeshi Mukai stated.
