Mazda, Panasonic enter agreement towards supply of cylindrical automotive lithium-ion batteries

MANILA: Mazda Motor Corporation and Panasonic Energy Corporation Limited have entered an agreement towards the supply of cylindrical automotive lithium-ion batteries.

Per Mazda, the agreement reaffirms the two company’s commitment to addressing various societal challenges, such as mitigating global warming, , supporting local employment, and fostering talent development.

Carmudi Philippines — Zigwheels Philippines’ sister platform — reported in June last year that the two companies have started discussions about their common interest in meeting the growing demand for electric vehicles and automotive batteries. The discussion is aimed at building a medium- to long-term partnership for the supply of the said automotive component.

The aforementioned discussion has resulted in the said agreement.

“As part of our electrification initiatives, Mazda is working with its partners in three phases to flexibly respond to changes in regulatory trends, consumer needs, and other areas. We are delighted to collaborate with Panasonic Energy, which has been a pioneer in automotive lithium-ion batteries, developing high-quality products. We will keep contributing to curbing global warming through various initiatives including our electrification strategy,” Mazda Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer Masahiro Moro said in a previous press release.
