Mazda PH spruces up CX-30 HEV

MANILA: Mazda Philippines has further spruced up the CX-30HEV in its bid to cement its post as the most elegant crossover in the market.

In a statement, the Japanese automotive marque shared that the updated offering is more loaded with enhanced safety and convenience features.

Exterior upgrades

the new Mazda CX-30 combines the stance of a sport utility vehicle with a sleek profile that is usually found in a coupe — which is the latest evolution of the brand’s “Kodo” design philosophy and embodies “Utsuroi” — using the interplay of light and shadow to form the foundation of its design.

The brand’s signature wing — in Black Chrome finish — fitted on the Mazda CX-30 has been made sharper and deeper — displaying a more refined look while the diagonal angle of the rear window gives it a distinct silhouette.

Mazda Philippines shared that despite the tailgate’s narrow arch did not compromise luggage capacity while giving the vehicle an athletic stance.

Completing the aesthetic upgrades outside the vehicle are the piano black window garnishes.

The 2024 Mazda CX-30 comes in in six colors namely Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray, Platinum Quartz, Polymetal Gray, Deep Crystal Blue, and Snowflake White Pearl.

Interior

The cabin of the new Mazda CX-30, which took cues from Buddhist philosophy of Ma (the beauty of empty space), has incorporated minimalism and symmetry that creates a state of harmony — allowing the driver to remain focused, yet remaining open and inviting for everyone onboard.

Ingenious details such as slightly slanted rear foot well provide more foot and knee room for passengers while the faint rounding of the door jams’ side sill ensures comfortable ingress and egress without creating a gap in the door seams. Mazda Philippines said that the marque’s designers have gone as far as producing a life-size test model to optimize the height of the CX-30’s trunk release button.

Aside from that, gun metallic trimmings can be found on the door handles, dashboard, air-conditioning vents and controls, and transmission shifter ring. A rich mix of Terracotta Leather and Black Leganu Suede can be found on the seats.

“The Japanese master craftsmen have always prized simplicity of form, of being beautifully pure,” Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan was quoted as saying.

 “This inspired our designers to trim back elements and create something dynamic yet elegant, restrained yet vital. This is how we perceive Japanese aesthetics—a sensibility that has created emotionally moving cars.”

Further, the new Mazda CX-30 is equipped with upgraded standard equipment levels such as a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect infotainment display (which has wireless Apple Carplay connectivity) that uses physical controls on the center console and steering wheel for minimal distraction. It is mated to a 12-speaker Bose sound system.

Mobile devices can be juiced up using the wireless charging dock or the dual USB-C ports.

Other features present in the new Mazda CX-30 are the electric glass sunroof, front windshield-projected Active Driving Display, 360-degree view monitor, and a power tailgate with memory.

Technologies

Giving customers more peace of mind, the new Mazda now comes with increased levels of safety. The new adaptive LED headlights automatically brighten or dim individual beams to maximize illumination without blinding other vehicles. When cruising at 40 kilometers per hour, the system illuminates a wider area for better visibility of sidewalks and pedestrians and upon reaching above 95 kph, the system raises the illumination for better long-range visibility.

Additionally, the new Mazda CX-30’s i-Activsense Driver Assist Technology has been upgraded with the addition of front cross traffic alert, front cross brake support, rear cross brake support, and driver monitoring system. The suite of technologies complements the existing advanced driver assistive features like the Mazda radar cruise control with cruising and traffic support, smart brake support with forward obstruction warning at the front), lane departure warning with lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert.

Powertrain

The 2024 Mazda CX-30 is powered by a 2.0-liter e-Skyactiv-G engine equipped with the 24-volt Mazda hybrid system — which stores energy (normally wasted during braking) into a lithium-ion battery. The aforementioned energy is used to propel an integrated electric motor that sends additional power to the drivetrain, while also powering the CX-30’s electrical system.

Mazda Philippines shared that the vehicle can run on electric power alone during certain circumstances.

The motor — paired with the Skyactiv-Drive six-speed automatic with sports mode and paddle shifters — generates an extra 6.8 horsepower (hp) and 49 Newton-meters (Nm), helping boost overall outputs to nearly 162 and 213 Nm.

Sharing its DNA with the Mazda3, the CX-30 adopts the Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture and human-centric design principles to enhance the sense of Jinba-ittai between driver and car. The application of vehicle dynamics technologies, like G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC Plus), ensures consistent and smooth vehicle behavior.

“We are leaving no stone unturned. The steadfast application of Japanese design and craftsmanship principles means the new Mazda CX-30 delivers a premium experience that exceeds its owners’ expectations. It is the embodiment of Japanese mastery and is a compact crossover that will stand the test of time,” Tan concluded.

Priced at P1.995 million, the new Mazda CX-30 2.0L HEV is packaged with a five-year free service plan that covers the expenses of periodic maintenance at either six-month or 10,000-kilometer intervals for up to five years or 100,000 kilometers.
