Mazda to preview an EV based on the e-TPV with a rotary engine range extender
MANILA: It is widely known that Mazda and rotary engines do not have the best of the friendships. However, we might very soon see an all-new Mazda that will be carrying a rotary engine. It is going be an electric Mazda that will get a rotatory engine range extender for improving the overall range of the EV. What Mazda calls the e-TPV or Electric Test Prototype Vehicle, is based on the Japanese automaker's newly launched CX-30 crossover.
With the EV being based on the CX-30 it is now clear that the Skayctiv-Vehicle Architecture is indeed suitable for electrified powertrains. The model holds in its arsenal good 140 hp of maximum power and a peak torque of 265 Nm. While the total range with the rotatory engine range extender is said to be up to 500 kilometres, the EV without the engine can go for 200 kilometres. According to Mazda, the compact dimensions along with quiet and vibration-free nature of the rotatory engine made it the obvious choice for the job.
The production model of the Mazda e-TPV will take centre stage at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show next month, i.e., October 2019.
Along with the e-TPV, Mazda will also preview the Vision Sedan Concept that will be housing the automaker's brand new 3.0-litre inline-six Skyactiv-X motor and rear-wheel-drive architecture. 2019 Tokyo Motor Show is not much far away and the proposition already looks quite exciting, doesn't it?
