Mazda Trainer launched in Japan for student drivers

MANILA: Mazda has launched a special model to cater to student drivers. Called the Mazda Trainer, the car is based on the small 4-door sedan, Mazda2. It helps the learner drivers to get acquainted with driving basics quickly. Simultaneously, it also reduces the stress of driving instructors. According to the company, the regular Mazda2 itself is ideal for the learners,

thanks to the seating position, tight turning radius, manageable dimensions, and a low hood. The Trainer gets a wide range of features and accessories over the Mazda2, which are rarely found on any series-production automobile.

Mazda has installed the student driver plates and a bumper pole is also provided to enhance the guidance level. The front window visors are now wider and the rear bumper gets a protector. There is an additional pair of mirrors on the primary wing or side view mirrors, which is the biggest change in this installation. While the primary mirrors are for the student drivers, auxiliary mirrors are for trainers, enabling them to experience the driver’s point of view from the passenger seat itself.

The secondary mirrors are placed on the top of the standard ORVMs, so the car’s overall width remains the same. Mazda has also provided a better organ-type accelerator pedal, which it claims is good for learner drivers. The footwell of the driver has been illuminated so that the pedals are visible to the driver. The clutch disc also has a larger diameter. A second brake pedal is present on the instructor’s side.

As for the mechanics, it comes with a 1.5-litre gasoline SkyActiv engine, which is mated to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission. As for the safety purpose, the Trainer features six airbags as standard.

For now, the Mazda Trainer will only be available in Japan. No information is available whether it will come to the Philippines or not. The 2019 Mazda 3 was previewed in the Philippines recently, are you also waiting for the new 3?
