Memorandum Of Understanding Signed Between VW & LG – Innovation Connected Car Platform On Charts
MANILA: With the advancement in technology, every automaker is doing its best to pack the best of aspects in its fleet. For the upcoming connected cars wars, every auto brand is selecting its team and the German giant Volkswagen and the renowned South Korean brand LG have decided to partner. Initially, the two companies have shared their working outline where they would be working together on connected car platform for a couple of years on usual upgradation of the infotainment system. After signing an agreement, which is also named 'memorandum of understanding', both the companies have mutually decided to work on crossover platform to improve the convenience and connectivity factors in the drive.
Recently, the German brand captured the no. 1 spot in the global automotive market and to maintain the same, it is keen on bringing the best of technology in no time. Earlier to that, VW released its annual report and mentioned that it had to suffer a big loss worth PhP 71.8 billion in the year 2015 due to Dieselgate Scandal. Providing more details about the new collaboration, Volkswagen said that it is going to use cloud technology to enable digital access to numerous aspects making it much more comfortable and convenient for the occupants, especially the driver. If you think that these two big brands are working together just to develop next-gen infotainment technology for the connected cars, let's tell you that there is much more than this.
The newly set up team will bring technologies together with the smart homes and these connected cars so that the drivers may control and operate their home electronics and electricals like security system, lights, fans and domestic appliances right from their drives. Also, development of a context-sensitive notification centre is also on the charts. This notification centre can deliver messages intuitively and in a safe manner with optimized recommendations to the driver in real time. So, you would be getting the best routes, apt locations and much more in real time with this cloud technology.
Volkswagen has released a statement in which Professor Thomas Form, the head of electronics and vehicle research at VW mentioned that the company is working on with the digitalization of its brands and the focus is still on the safety, convenience and comfort of the occupants. Since LG is a reliable and strong partner with years of experience, they both can work together to implement the new vision of innovation cloud technology in connected cars. Further the authority cited that the partnership between these 2 companies is not a new thing and LG is supplying audio-visual products to VW since 2007. Volkswagen Guigiaro GEA Concept staged at the Geneva Motor Show 2015 also had technology fitted by LG Electronics which included connected smart watch, tail lights, rear camera and a holographic screen.
This is not the first time when the German giant is trying something new and innovative technology in its cars. Volkswagen revealed its Golf R Touch concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last year wherein the instrument panel was replaced with a big rectangular touch display to deliver all the necessary information.
