Mercedes-AMG's 'first hybrid, most powerful car' available to order in the UK

MANILA: The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT63 S E Performance — AMG's first hybrid and most powerful product to date — is now available to order in the United Kingdom.  

The GT63 S E Performance retails for £173,655 (around P12 million), with customer deliveries slated for April, Mercedes-Benz said in a release. Customers can also specify a unique example through the carmaker's Manufaktur program. 

The GT63 S E Performance's four-liter, turbocharged V8 engine and electric motors generate a combined 831hp and massive 1,400Nm of torque.

These figures enable the car to reach 100kph from standstill in 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 316kph, which are helped by a nine-speed automatic and four-wheel drive. 

Meanwhile, the GT63 S E can travel in full-electric mode for 12 kilometers before the car is needed to be charged at a station or household socket.

A near-50-50 weight distribution is brought by the engine and e-motors mounted on either ends of the GT63 S E Performance. An added boost is given by those e-motors, which offer high regeneration efficiency, the carmaker added. 

As the car's lithium-ion battery's technologies were "inspired by the Mercedes-AMG F1 team's racing cars," the battery features high power density and thermal cooling, which promise to keep the battery at its peak condition and performance.

To enhance handling, the GT63 S E features AMG Ride Control+ suspension and AMG Dynamics.

Ride Control adjusts the suspension's damping force for each wheel to suit the road condition in just a few milliseconds. The AMG Dynamics control influences the car's ESP, all-wheel drive, and limited-slip rear differential to increase agility.

The ceramic high-performance compound brake system — which measures 17 inches at front, 15 inches at the rear — is lightweight, has a long service life and extremely high stability.

For energy regeneration, the GT63 S E can achieve such when the driver takes off his or her foot from the accelerator, or depresses the brake pedal. 

Inside the GT63 S E, the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) multimedia displays AMG hybrid-specific functions.

These functions include the power flow of the entire drive system, rpm, output, torque and temperature of the electric motor, as well as the temperature of the battery.
