Mercedes-Benz ‘Star Dads’ share their paternal success stories

MANILA: Known as the "father of the automobile," Karl Benz invented the world’s first car in 1886. Despite of the challenges he encountered, Benz used his knowledge and ability to create the Mercedes-Benz brand through hard work, passion, and the support of his family.

To commemorate all incredible dads this month, Mercedes-Benz Philippines brought together its clients to share what makes them “Star Dads.”

Marvin Caparros, a father of three, advises all fathers to spend time with their children often. He shared, “Love language for them is spelled as T-I-M-E. There is no such excuse as one has no time to spend with your children as what is important for one, then you will spare time for it. Children grow up quickly and being part of that phase in their lives is priceless.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Ricardo Javinson shared how he maintains a harmonious relationship with his family. “The biggest challenge as a father is creating a work-life balance and this is something I prioritize. We may find ourselves still out working or we can be at home but still… working. Your family knows when you are at work, but you must make them feel whenever you are at home as a father. That is not only giving quality time to your family but also... a lot of quality time. It must be both. Furthermore, work-life balance can mitigate communication issues. It will also be easy to have a common ground as this will pave the way to sound relationships,” Javinson said.

As the head of the household, fathers tend to be the role models of their children since they would always look up to them. In the case of David Gomez, his father’s good values and great character inspired him to be a “Star Dad” to his children. He shared, “I have a daughter and a challenge for me is making sure that they grow up with good values like what their grandparents have taught me. This is the only inheritance that I can make sure of. We always make sure they grow up with purpose and bring kindness to everyone. Good values and great character are what I got from my father, also business skills as an entrepreneur.”

Gomez also recalled the moment when his father gave him a 1983 W123 Mercedes-Benz 300d. They decided to sell it but after a decade, Gomez bought it back and gave it to his dad as a Christmas gift.

The role of a father is something that every dad should be passionate about and it is normal to have major setbacks while working on a passion. Through time, these will serve as inspirations in turning that passion into reality. As Javinson said, “I admire my father for two things: generosity and focus. He may not have that much but his heart extends to his hands. He has good relationships with his friends that up to now, they look up to him. His work attitude is also exquisite as he can maintain his focus to deliver on what is expected of him. He knows what he wants and works on it despite some destructions. I want my kids to inherit these traits as key to their success.”
