Mercedes-Maybach launches all-new SL 680 Monogram Series

MANILA: Mercedes-Maybach has launched the SL 680 Monogram Series as its first-ever two-seater offering. Per the luxury subsidiary company owned by Mercedes-Benz, the aforementioned is also the sportiest model in Maybach’s history. 

The all-new SL 680 Monogram Series is based on the Mercedes-AMG SL63 S E Performance convertible. Under its hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 capable of producing up to 585 horsepower and 800 Newton-meters of torque. For its transmission, it uses a nine-speed automatic, which sends power to all four wheels. 

Other mechanical upgrades Maybach made to the car all revolve around comfort. Per the luxury car maker, its adaptive suspension was given a softer tune. Its tailpipes were likewise optimized to be quieter, and its engine received a set of softer mounts as well. 

To further elevate the SL 680 from the model it was based on, the luxury marque provided it with plenty of exterior upgrades. Chief among its visual improvements is a distinctive hand-painted and lacquered obsidian black bonnet with a graphite grey Maybach pattern finish. 

The vehicle’s headlamps, on the other hand, received rose gold accents. Its body likewise sports a wide front skirt, a chromed windshield frame, as well as a set of 21-inch forged multi-spoke wheels. 

For its rear end, the SL 680 was equipped with a pair of LED taillights, which bear the Maybach signet. On the rear’s lower sections is a unique-looking rear skirt paired with a slick-looking diffuser and subtle chrome tailpipes. 

The German luxury brand also gave the model a light black fabric soft top with a subtle Maybach pattern. With the top folded down, one can see its aerodynamic double scoop positioned behind the car’s headrests. 

For its interior, the SL 680 features a plush space filled with white Nappa leather and plenty of silver chrome trims. It likewise received Maybach-specific graphics for its digital gauge and infotainment system, as well as stainless-steel pedals and door sill trims for more visual impact. 

At the moment, Mercedes-Maybach has not released a full features list for the SL 680 Monogram Series, nor has it disclosed its price. Regardless, the selling period for the plush roadster will start in the second half of 2025. 

In the local market, Maybach models are sold through Mercedes-Benz Philippines. Its lineup of models includes the Maybach GLS 600 4Matic sports utility vehicle and the Maybach S580 (S-Class sedan) 4Matic.
