MIAS Wired: Jeep Gladiator enters the arena
MANILA: Auto Nation Group, the official distributor of Jeep vehicles in the Philippines, digitally presented to the general public the much-anticipated pickup and the final addition to the Jeep brand this year, the Gladiator.
The Gladiator was presented during the first day of the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) Wired 2020.
The classic Jeep brand design combined with truck capability is said to establish a standard when it comes to road adventures.
Furthermore, the Jeep Gladiator has been carefully developed from the ground up to offer iconic Jeep capability, functionality, and genuine truck utility.
The Gladiator flaunts Jeep's signature seven-slotted grille, which makes it more uniquely stylish. It is fitted with Jeep performance LED tail lamps and headlamps, which provide enhanced illumination and visibility on the road.
The Jeep Gladiator is also fitted with removable aluminum doors that are similar to the Jeep Wrangler, as well as a freedom top that only takes about 20 minutes to disassemble.
Other exterior components seen in the Gladiator include body-color fenders that can accommodate a set of 35-inch tires and steel skid plates that cover the transfer case and fuel tank for a hassle-free trip even in the toughest of terrains.
The Gladiator Rubicon variant comes standard with rock rails and steel rear bumpers that provide additional hold against aggressive off-road driving and extra protection for the rear.
The pick-up also features a five-foot truck bed (6.,5 feet if the tailgate is open) that provides enough space for storage of equipment. Dirt bikes can also be loaded using the four-string tie down loops, which are incorporated at the rear.
Moreover, a trailer or a Ram 1500 can also be hooked up thanks to the 7,000-lb towing capacity of the Jeep Gladiator. It also has "♡419" ingrained at the truck bed, which is a representation of the country code of the state of Ohio, USA — the location where the pickups have been developed.
The Gladiator is powered by the proven 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, which is matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It provides a torque of 352Nm and a power output of 285hp. This engine also comes with a stop-start system, which targets fuel conservation through engine shutdown, especially when the vehicle is stopped.
One of the selling points of the Gladiator is that it was able to earn a Trail Rated badge, which is acquired after the vehicle has overcome a series of assessments under harsh conditions and tough terrain.
The power dome dual vented hood aids in heat removal from the engine compartment and contributes to the rugged stance of the Gladiator.
Inside, the pickup is equipped with a suite of connectivity and entertainment features such as the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen display supported by Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, the voice command system for easy navigation while driving, the Alpine Premium audio system for supreme sound quality, and the customizable Cluster 7.0 TFT color display that provides a multitude of information about the vehicle.
Because of its rubberized frame, the infotainment system is considered to be waterproof even if the Gladiator is being driven under the rain and the Freedom Top is off.
Aside from the rear seats that can be folded 60/40, additional storage is available through the Gladiator’s rear compartment storage tray that unveils a hidden space to accommodate more items.
Comfort and security are a top priority as well in the Jeep Gladiator through its power and safety functions such as the remote start system for starting the engine and warming up the air conditioner; blind spot monitoring that aids in keeping track of the surrounding vehicles, lane changing, and alerting the driver for blind spot zones; and ParkView rear back-up camera for convenient parking even in tight spaces.
