Mini Set to Preview All-new 2016 Convertible at 2015 Tokyo Motor Show

MANILA: MINI took no much time and returned with their third generation hatch, the new 2016 Convertible that will be previewed at next week’s Tokyo Motor Show. The new Mini is similar to a closed-top hatchback,which evolves into a much modern and sporty design. Mini has used the evolution theme on all three-generations of the series.

The exterior gets a larger front grille installed with larger and modern-looking headlamps and tail lamps that are elegant in such a manner that it looks in different taste from its predecessor. In terms of dimensions, the new Convertible measures 3,821mm in length, 1,727mm in width and 1,415mm in height.

Mini claims that that the new convertible is designed to run of wider tracks and promises to offer a 25 percent more luggage space at 215 liters with the top closed and 160 liters with the open top. The sliding roof function is maintained on the multi-layer structure that offers quieter mechanism. The roof can be opened or closed at an speed of 30km/h in 18 seconds. The roof is woven with the premium Union Jack pattern which offers a great customization.

Under the hood, the convertible is powered by two gasoline engines, including a 136PS,1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol for the Cooper and a 192PS, 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol for the Cooper S, Cooper D gets the 116PS, 1.5-liter 3-cylinder diesel. More power mills, including a powerful 170PS diesel and a 231PS, 2.0 litre turbo four engine is likely to come with John Cooper Works edition. All models are mated with six-speed manuals and optional six-speed automatics along with front wheel drive.
