Mini teases next-gen JCW models with ICE, electric powertrains

MANILA: Mini has teased the upcoming debut of its latest high-performance models under the John Cooper Works (JCW) nameplate. For the first time ever, the all-new vehicles under the said brand’s in-house tuning division will be getting both internal combustion engines(ICE) and all-electric powertrains. 

Per the small car specialist, the upcoming JCW lineup will be unveiled in the fall season of 2024. The aforementioned is sometime between September and the first weeks of December this year. 

For now, no exact specifications were disclosed by the BMW-owned car brand, but it has shared that the next-gen JCW cars will be underpinned by a chassis “tuned for precision.” Particularly for the electric vehicle version, the brand assures that its future adopters can expect the thrill of instant torque combined with the “refined agility” the JCW sub-brand is known for. 

Mini likewise highlighted the JCW PROtotype (Pro), which previews the performance capabilities of the next-gen JWC models.

To note, the ICE version of the JCW Pro has previously emerged as the winner of the SP-3T class at the 2024 24 Hours of Nurburgring. At the said endurance race, the vehicle was piloted by members of the Bulldog Racing team. 

After its victory at the German endurance race, the all-electric JCW Pro also wowed the crowds at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed through the event’s famous hill-climb course. 

At the moment, Mini Philippine’s selection of JCW models includes the 3-Door priced at P4.08 million, the Convertible at P4.4 million, the Clubman at P4.85 million, and the Countryman at P4.95 million. 

The most powerful Philippine-spec JCW vehicles are the Countryman and the Clubman. Both are propelled by a 2.0-liter inline-4 mill capable of producing up to 301 horsepower and 450 Newton-meters of torque.
