The involved parties have formed the WEEE Collection Project. What are MMPC's eco-friendly models?
MMPC's eco-friendly cars include the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and the soon-to-arrive Triton.Through the said collaboration, the involved companies have launched the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Collection Project.
Per MMPC, the WEEE Collection Project embraces awareness campaigns and sustainable recovery and recycling of heavy metals from e-waste. The local arm of the Japanese car brand believes that it is time to partner with firms or organizations that have the expertise to turn waste into something valuable and helpful to the environment.
“This project is our testament to MMPC’s commitment to environmental responsibility and social welfare and through this partnership, we aim to give the proceeds of the recycled materials to Bantay Kalikasan’s CSR projects,” said MMPC Executive Vice President for Corporate Division Takehisa Usami.
According to MMPC Assistant Vice President for Manufacturing Division Marfel Ancheta, the brand generated an estimate of about ten tons of electronic waste this year, contributing to the rapidly growing global waste problem.
Not only will this partnership help MMPC to further mobilize its corporate and social responsibility projects, but it will also strengthen AFI’s longstanding environmental stewardship advocacy.
“Maybe it’s high time na i-consider nila [to not only comply> with what the law requires, [but also to> look on the other side that you’re compliant, as well as you have these efforts to minimize the impact sa ating environment na labis nang nasasaktan (maybe it’s high time that they not only consider what the law requires but also to look on the other side that you’re compliant, as well as you have these efforts to minimize the impact in our environment that is already hurting so much),” Ancheta explained.
AFI’s Managing Director Roberta Lopez-Feliciano, on the other hand, thanked the delegates from MMPC and stated that the partnership between the companies will be the first of many.
“We only have one world to live in, just like we only have one life. The ABS-CBN Foundation is always grateful to find partners who believe in the importance of protecting and conserving our natural world. I hope that what we’re starting here today will be the first of many things we can do together,” Feliciano noted.
MMPC is also doing its part in improving its local lineup when it comes to sustainability. The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), for example, is equipped with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine paired with twin technologically advanced electric drive motors mounted on the front and rear axle.
The said setup also features a 13.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery, which enables all-electric driving in select conditions.
Aside from the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, the brand is also bringing in the Triton, which is said to have a cleaner, more eco-friendly engine compared to its predecessor — the Strada.
