Mitsubishi teases new Outlander PHEV
New version to get a more luxurious interior, 'evolved' powertrain

Per the teaser of the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, it is getting a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a 12-piece Yamaha speaker system, and a more powerful drive battery.The teaser for the upcoming vehicle can be found on the Japanese website of the car brand, and with most teasers, the majority of the vehicle is draped in shadow. While Mitsubishi has yet to provide a full look at the updated hybrid’s exterior, some fine details were disclosed.
For starters, the vehicle will be getting an updated version of its PHEV system. It will be using a new drive battery, which promises a higher capacity and power output. According to the Japanese marque, the new battery will make the Outlander PHEV more responsive, and more similar in performance to an electric vehicle (EV). It is also getting an extended EV driving range as well.
The new Outlander PHEV’s interior, meanwhile, will receive semi-aniline leather seats with detailed stitching and perforations. It will also come equipped with a 12.3-inch infotainment system with smartphone linking, as well as a 12-piece Yamaha sound system.
Per the chief product specialist of Mitsubishi Product Strategy Division, Atsushi Gomi, the upcoming model was the result of market research. Specifically, customers wanted the vehicle to bear a “higher quality feel.”
Program design director Naoki Akita of Mitsubishi’s Design Division, on the other hand, disclosed that the vehicle is getting a new “Moonstone Gray Metallic” color. In addition, Akita said that the vehicle’s front fascia will bear a more refined and sophisticated design, making it more suitable in its role as a flagship model.
Segment Chief Vehicle Engineer Kentaro Honda likewise shared more details on the upcoming Outlander PHEV’s powertrain. According to Honda, the new version of the model was designed to focus on achieving driving comfort, safety, and performance.
For now, it appears the new Outlander PHEV will be seeing a Japanese market launch first. But hopefully, in the near future, it will reach the Philippine market as a more potent replacement for the older locally available model.
For reference, the Outlander PHEV currently sold by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation is priced at P2.998 million.
Under its hood is a 2.4-liter engine paired with a lithium-ion battery and two permanent magnet synchronous motors. It is also equipped with an all-wheel-drive system, an EV mode, and regenerative braking, among others.
