Mitsubishi to roll out Delica Mini kei-car in Japan next month

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will begin taking orders for the new Mitsubishi Delica Mini super height-wagon kei-car on May 25.

Built around the concept of being a dependable and dynamic super height-wagon kei-car, the Mitsubishi Delica Mini derives its name from the Delica minivan.

This year marks the 55th anniversary of the Delica, a car whose history started in 1968 with the introduction of the Delica Truck. In 1969, the Delica Van and Delica Coach passenger vehicles were added to the Delica lineup, setting the groundwork for the following Delica series of cab-over wagons. Full-scale 4WD systems were incorporated into the second-generation Delica Star Wagon in 1979, the third-generation Delica Star Wagon in 1986, and the fourth-generation Delica Space Gear in 1994, defining the monobox vehicles' distinct position as vehicles fitted for tackling rough roads and solidifying the Delica's reputation as a partner in outdoor recreation experience. In 2007, Mitsubishi launched the fifth-generation Delica D:5, which became popular to customers for being an exceptional all-around minivan.

The new Mitsubishi Delica Mini is designed with an SUV-like styling, conveying the sensation of powerful driving, similar to the Delica.

The three-dimensional Dynamic Shield front design, which exudes strength and security, along with headlamps that have distinctive semicircular LED position lights gives the Mitsubishi Delica Mini a stylish yet welcoming appearance.

There is an embossed Delica logo on the front bumper and liftgate garnish. The bottoms of the front and rear bumpers have a skid-plate form to portray the strength of the Delica and the premium sensation of an SUV. The Mitsubishi Delica Mini also comes with glossy black wheel arches. The dark-silver paint and tough-looking design of the aluminum wheels give them a sophisticated look.

The Mitsubishi Delica Mini is available in 12 exterior colors — six two-tone and six monotone.

On the inside, the Mitsubishi Delica Mini features a horizontally-themed instrument panel with a black base color and light gray accents that give off an active, bright impression. This color scheme emphasizes the sense of width and makes the tray and drink holders visible and the interior easy to use.

The seats have stain-resistant, breathable, water-repellent fabric as they are made with outdoor activities and families with young children in mind. Moreover, raised embossment is applied to the sitting surface and center of the seatbacks to create functional, comfortable, moisture-resistant seats.

The rear seats have a sliding range of 320mm front and back, with foot space ensuring that passengers still have plenty of space, even when the front seats are pushed back at the furthest position. Various seat arrangements are possible thanks to the sliding and reclining seats on each side.

The luggage board and rear seatbacks are made of material that is easily wipeable so wet items and muddy outdoor gear can be loaded without worry.

The rear sliding doors of the Mitsubishi Delica Mini have an opening width of 650mm. The hands-free auto sliding doors can be opened and closed even when both hands are occupied with luggage by simply covering the kick sensor on the underside of the door with a foot.

The Mitsubishi Delica Mini comes standard with the MI-PILOT driver assistance technology, which includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Keep Assist. It is also equipped with active safety technologies such as Forward Collision Mitigation system, Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication, Automatic High Beam, Traffic Sign Recognition system, Leading Car Departure Notification, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Driver Attention Alert, and Predictive Forward Collision Warning.

Pricing for the Mitsubishi Delica Mini ranges from ¥1,804,000 to ¥2,238,500.

Pre-orders for the new Mitsubishi Delica Mini started on January 13 and as of April 5, there had been about 9,000 units ordered. Around 60% of all customers chose 4WD variants, while over 80% of orders were for fully equipped Premium variants.
