MMDA: Number coding suspension extended, modified scheme postponed
MANILA: The MMDA (Metropolitan Manila Development Authority) is extending the suspension of the number coding scheme of UVVRP (Universal Vehicular Volume Reduction Program) indefinitely.
In a statement on their website made yesterday, the agency said that the decision was made “due to limited operations of public transportation in Metro Manila” and that it was for “public mobility to continue and assist the motorists, particularly those reporting for work.”
An additional four PUB (public utility bus) routes are opening today under the Rationalized Bus Transit Map of Metro Manila, which takes the total number of routes to twelve. These are:
Route 3 (Monumento-Valenzuela Gateway Complex)
Route 11 (Gilmore-Taytay)
Route 13 (Buendia-BGC)
Route 21 (Monumento-San Jose Del Monte)
Route 1 (Monumento-Balagtas)
Route 5 (Quezon Avenue-Angat)
Route 7 (Quezon Avenue-Montalban)
Route 9 (Cubao-Antipolo) *to augment LRT-2
Route 17 (Monumento-EDSA Taft) *to augment LRT-1
Route 18 (PITX-NAIA Loop)
Route 28 (PITX-Dasmariñas)
Portion of Route E (EDSA Carousel) *to augment MRT-3
The MMDA has yet to give an estimated date of implementation of the modified number coding scheme, which was supposed to be enforced today after an information campaign on Thursday last week.
To recall, under MMDA Regulation 2020-001 series of 2020, all private vehicles with two or more passengers, including the driver, who are physically-distanced and are wearing masks will be exempted. Also, excused are owner-driven private vehicle of doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel. Government employees, people working in essential businesses such as telecommunications, water, media, and those in the list of APOR (authorized persons outside residence) will also not be cited for "coding" violations.
For TNVS (transport network vehicles service) units, visible signs will be required to be put up so they can be recognized by enforcers.
