MMDA reports 87% drop in EDSA accidents in last 3 months
MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has good news: Accidents on EDSA have dropped significantly between June to August 2020 compared to the same period last year.
According to the agency, there were a total of only 618 road crashes on EDSA between June 1 to August 31, 2020. The same three-month period last year recorded 4,652 incidents. That is an 86.72% decline.
Of the 618 road crashes in 2020, 509 resulted in damage to property, five caused deaths, and 104 had non-fatal injuries. That is a stark difference compared to 2019 when the 4,652 road crashes resulted in 4,244 instances of damage to property and 400 non-fatal injuries.
The highest number of road crashes this year occurred in Quezon City with a total of 312, followed by Mandaluyong City with 115, Makati City with 97, Pasay City with 69, Caloocan City with 17, and San Juan City with eight.
