MMDA to conduct traffic adjustments following EDSA-Kamuning Flyover closure

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) shall implement traffic adjustments in the flow of traffic following the closure of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA)-Kamuning Flyover southbound lane.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What traffic-alleviating measures will be implemented within the vicinity of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA)-Kamuning Flyover?

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will conduct rerouting schemes, deploy additional traffic enforcers in the area and install more signages following the temporary road closure.
  • How many vehicles use the EDSA Kamuning Flyover southbound lane on a daily basis?

Data from the MMDA Traffic Engineering Center showed that 24,000 four-wheeled vehicles and 23,000 motorcycles traverse the southbound lanes of the flyover every day.
  • To recall, the EDSA-Kamuning Flyover southbound lane has been partially closed since May 1 for a six-month retrofitting and rehabilitation project. Works take up two lanes of the flyover while the remaining lane is being used exclusively for the EDSA busway system.

MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes recently said that motorcycles will be rerouted to alternative routes such as Scout Borromeo, Panay Avenue, Mother Ignacia Avenue, and Scout Albano as they will no longer be allowed to use the service road.

"This move is to lessen the traffic on Kamuning service road. All vehicles, including motorcycles, are urged to use the alternate routes," he explained.

The agency will also deploy additional traffic enforcers in the area and will install more directional and traffic signages to guide motorists along the identified alternate routes.

Further, the MMDA shall also ask the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the EDSA carousel buses to utilize the service road daily to ensure uninterrupted retrofitting works at the flyover.
