The handheld ticketing devices could print citation tickets, authenticate driver's licenses and vehicle registrations, check for demerit points on the driver's record, determine whether the license or registration is suspended, canceled, or has an existing alarm, and accept cashless payments of fines.
This is one of the topics tackled at the Metro Manila Council (MMC) meeting on Thursday.
The meeting was attended by San Juan City Mayor and MMC President Francis Zamora, Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, and Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval.
Artes added that MMDA has asked the supplier to equip the device with dual-sim operation so as to prevent signal reception issues.
MMDA enforcers will be trained on the use of the handheld ticketing devices next week, according to Artes.
“The training is scheduled on June 27. We want them to get familiar with the proper use of the handheld ticketing devices,” he said.
The STS enables interconnectivity among government agencies responsible for traffic control through a single system of fines and penalties.
The STS also aims to cut red tape, reduce corruption risks, and eliminate negotiations between the motorist and the apprehending officer.
