MPTC, SMC Team Up for Construction of CBEX and NBEX

MANILA: The 87.96-kilometer Cavite-Batangas Expressway (CBEX) and Nasugbu-Bauan Expressway (NBEX) will be designed, constructed, and operated under the terms of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and San Miguel Corporation (SMC).

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Which areas will be connected by CBEX?

The 27.06-kilometer Cavite-Batangas Expressway, or CBEX, will establish connection between CALAX's Silang Aguinaldo Interchange and Nasugbu, Batangas.
  • Which municipalities will be connected by NBEX?

The 60.90-kilometer Nasugbu-Bauan Expressway, or NBEX, will offer seamless connection from the municipalities of Nasugbu to Bauan in Batangas.
  • The project aims to link Bauan, Batangas, to MPTC's Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).

The signing ceremony is a significant milestone in the development of the P72-billion CBEX and NBEX project. It was led by MPTC Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan and SMC Chief Executive Officer Ramon S. Ang, together with Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) Chief Finance Officer Chaye Cabal Revilla and SMC Senior Vice President for Infrastructure Business Head Lorenzo Formoso III.

The signing of the MOA highlights both toll road companies' commitment to building world-class expressways that will meet the needs of motorists and commuters in the Calabarzon region. To guarantee a sustainable and responsible development that is in line with the country's infrastructure goals, MPTC and SMC will collaborate closely with the government, local communities, and stakeholders throughout the project.

“Our shared commitment to nation-building has led us to this historic collaboration. Together, we aim to deliver world-class road networks that will serve as arteries of progress, growth, and development for our country and the Filipino people. This collaboration stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we are united in purpose,” Ang stated.

“Together with SMC, we envisage a future where our CBEX and NBEX can help pave the way for connectivity and economic growth in the Calabarzon region,” Pangilinan said. “We look forward to leveraging on our respective strengths for the realization of this vital infrastructure project.”

According to the agreement, MPTC and SMC will work together to build, operate, and maintain the toll road projects.

This will include two major expressways: the 27.06-kilometer CBEX, which will establish connection between CALAX's Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange and Nasugbu, Batangas, and the 60.90-kilometer NBEX, which will offer seamless connection from the municipalities of Nasugbu to Bauan in Batangas.

The groundbreaking for the CBEX and NBEX is set for 2024 and the two expressways are anticipated to be completed and open to the public in 2027.

The route will pass along the townships of Silang, Amadeo, Tagaytay, Indang, Mendez, and Alfonso in Cavite before crossing into Nasugbu and ending in Bauan.

MPTC and SMC have a shared goal of improving the road infrastructure and transportation industry in the Philippines.
