New Ferrari 488 Spider, Revealed Ahead of its Debut

MANILA: Combining the elements like grace, beauty, spirit, and fire is the 'Rearing Horse' which is not just about fight and aggression but is also about excitement and incredibility. We are sure most of you must be confused it with equine species but few Ferrari lovers must have made that, what is talked about is the Italian luxury sports car brand, Ferrari S.p.A. with its world famous ' rearing horse' logo. Founded in 1929, the brand is famous throughout the history for its continuous participation in Formula One racing.

So, now what comes as a surprise is a roadster version of Ferrari 488 which is revealed ahead of its September debut in Frankfurt. The 488 Spyder is a combination of aerodynamic efficiency, roadster styling, lightweight, and rigid aluminum chassis technology which is supposedly to be the most powerful Ferrari. With a retractable hard top, what lays beneath the lid is a 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which in combination with 7-speed F1-style dual clutch transmission allows it to leap from 0 to 100 km/h in mere 3 seconds before touching the top speed of 325 km/h.

The chassis of 488 Spider is made of 11 different aluminum alloys and magnesium which makes it super strong. Further, the brand claims that 488 Spider yields the same torsional rigidity and beam stiffness as of a coupe. The fitments of various aero solutions which not only delivers optimal down force and less drag but also ensures that this Spider is the most aerodynamically efficient model. Further, holding this 'Horse' on ground is the blown spoiler and vortex generators (aerodynamic underbody) which are on the exterior front.

What else is new is a retractable hard top in place of traditional fabric soft top. With the application of this hard top, there are two benefits; weight reduction of 25 kg and better cabin comfort. The retractable hard top folds backward in two overlapping sections with only 14 seconds for the roof to fully deploy and retract. The manufacturer has also fixed an electric glass rear wind stop which can be lowered even when the roof is at place so that the driver’s ears can enjoy the V8 soundtrack.

With improvement by 9 percent in steering and throttle response making it accelerate 12 percent faster, this new 488 Spider will surely beat the older 458 Spider, not only in terms of performance but also in terms of pricing.
