New Ford vehicles to get Sync 4 Infotainment System
MANILA: As Ford continuous to look for ways to differentiate itself from the competition, it looks at putting Version 4 of Ford Sync infotainment system in all its new Ford vehicles by the end of 2019.
All Ford vehicles that roll off the assembly line will come standard with Ford Sync 4 starting January 2020. The fourth-generation Sync infotainment system will have a built-in cellular data modem, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, support for screens as big as 15.5 inches, and support for over-the-air software updates to all vehicle systems.
Said John Vangelov, manager, modem features, connected vehicle platform and product at Ford, “We will be one of the leaders in actually launching bumper to bumper updates for nearly all vehicle modules including conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.”
Check out the valuable Ford Sync 4 features to look forward to:
- Wireless (Qi) charging. More in-car wireless connections means reduce USB cable getting in the way of a centre-stack control. Reduced clutter is always a good thing
- Voice recognition. It allows you to control the centre stack hardware and make infotainment selections touch-free
- A bigger screen that can do more. Though an 8-inch touchscreen now usually comes standard, the 12-inch screen is a step up that can do more. With the 70-30 split-window capability, the monitor can multi-task—navigating on the left while your phone or audio streams on the right. The largest screen, the 15.5-inch monitor can do a lot more. It can show whatever it is your doing on top while the bottom has HVAC controls and a physical volume knob
- Another display option is the Adaptive Dash Card—features six cards running horizontally. The monitor will show three cards, then you can swipe left or right to see the rest
- Equipped with machine learning capability, better known as AI, the Sync 4 can learn your preferences and make helpful and timely suggestions based on your previous patterns of use. For instance, it can make destination suggestions based on your previous trips and suggest persons to call based on your frequently called contacts
- All-new Ford vehicles with Sync 4 will come with cloud connectivity and optional FordPass Connect with a 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot
- The Ford Sync 4 Infotainment System can download and install updates in the background similar to the way most computers and smartphones work
- Bluetooth and Wi-Fi can be simultaneously connected in the car. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Waze, and Ford’s Sync AppLink can be used wirelessly
According to Ford, the new Ford Sync 4 infotainment system is “faster, easier and simpler than ever to use.” The Sync uses QNX operating system with some development work moved in-house.
