This new model is the first-ever Mazda to feature self-charging full hybrid powertrain technology. The Mazda2 Hybrid automatically runs in EV mode at start-up — providing smooth, seamless, and quiet running in urban settings with zero CO2, NOx, and particulate emissions. During regular driving, the power distribution between the petrol engine and the electric motor is regulated for optimum performance and fuel efficiency. Kinetic energy is collected during deceleration and braking and recovered as electrical energy for storage in the high-performance battery.
The battery power level is constantly monitored by an engine-driven generator, eliminating the need for external power to recharge the system. Despite being a compact B-segment model, the new Mazda2 Hybrid has a long 2,560mm wheelbase that provides comfortable seating for up to four passengers. It also has 286 liters of cargo capacity. It comes in three grades: Mazda2 Hybrid Pure, Mazda2 Hybrid Agile, and Mazda2 Hybrid Select. The Mazda2 Hybrid received a maximum five-star crashworthiness rating from Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Program).
