New Volkswagen T-Cross makes a global debut
MANILA: With so many auto shows on the card around the world, including our very own PIMS (Philippine International Motor Show), the industry is looking at a great position to get new and upgraded models in abundance. One of the many cars that have been unveiled, the recent one is the much awaited, Volkswagen T-Cross.
This 2019 T-Cross is a very important car from the company’s perspective since it sits as the entry-level offering in the lineup. It is also considered to be an amazing car in the segment as it is dimensionally smaller than some of the competitors, which includes Mazda CX-3, which is currently sold in the country for PHP 1,280,000.
The car uses the MQB A0 architecture, which makes it very similar to some other models in the company’s lineup. Although it is smaller than some other cars, space is ample for the passengers and has a big boot as well. The boot space is as big as 385 litres to 455 litres, depending on the seat position. Moreover, folding the rear row will give you a whopping 1281 litres.
The T-Cross will be driven by a turbo-gasoline 1.0-litre engine in two tuning versions, which would be a 95 PS unit and a 115 PS one. Further, the bigger turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder gas motor will manage to churn out a better 150 PS power. As for the variation, there would just be a single diesel variant in the lineup, a 1.6-litre unit, churning out 95 PS of power.
The company hasn’t spoken about the transmission options yet. However, we can expect a 6-speed manual and a DSG transmission units to be offered. Additionally, the 95 PS gasoline version might get a 5-speed manual unit apart from the 7-speed DSG.
On the safety front, Volkswagen has said that this car will come with a lot of features as standard, including the hill start assist, rear cross traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring system, autonomous emergency braking, etc. Apart from these, some other optional features will include adaptive cruise control, an automated-parking assistance, along with a driver’s attention monitoring system.
Volkswagen Philippines does not sell the T-Cross in the country yet. Hence, we cannot be sure if it would make an entry here or not.
