Next-gen Swift wins 2024 RJC Car of the Year award

MANILA: Suzuki Motor Corporation’s fourth-generation Swift hatchback has won the 2024 Car of the Year Award from the Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC). 

To note, the aforementioned win makes the next-generation Swift the fourth under its nameplate to have achieved the Car of the Year accolade from RJC. 

It was particularly praised by the awarding body’s panel of judges for its styling design and driving performance, which is said to have been cultivated from the Japanese marque’s previous Swift models. 

The car’s new 12-volt mild hybrid electric powertrain, driver assistance systems, and lightweight but highly rigid body were given praise by the organization as well. 

“We are delighted to have Swift selected as the 2025 RJC Car of the Year. Since the launch of the first-generation model,” Suzuki Motor Corporation Representative Director and President Toshihiro Suzuki said. 

 “The Swift has been the flagship model of Suzuki and has continued to evolve with the encouragement of the RJC Car of the Year award for each generation, and has been loved by many customers in Japan and other countries all over the world. With this award, we will strive to make the Swift even more beloved by customers around the world,” Suzuki added. 

In the Philippines, the currently available version of the Swift from Suzuki’s local arm is the third-generation internal combustion-only model. 

Priced at P989,000, its sole variant, the GL CVT, uses a 1.2-liter inline-4 gasoline engine capable of outputting 82 horsepower and 113 Newton-meters of torque. 

At the moment, there’s no word as to when the fourth-gen Swift will enter the local market, but we’re hoping it will happen soon.
