Next stage of Nissan PH electrification strategy presented at 9th PEVS
MANILA: Nissan Philippines presented the progress of its electrification strategy at the ongoing 9th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS).
The company tackled the next phase of its electric vehicle (EV) strategy in the virtual event, following the launch of the fully electric Nissan Leaf last May.
Nissan Philippines President and Managing Director Atsushi Najima stated, “Now that the Nissan Leaf is here, the next phase of our electrification plans for the country involve continuously educating the public about the benefits of EVs, while making the Nissan Leaf accessible to more parts of the country through our Nissan EV dealerships.”
Nissan also presented a video that featured the nationwide reach of its electrification strategy. The video, which revealed the company’s vision for sustainability, was filmed in Cebu City.
In a recent visit to Nissan Cebu South V. Rama, Najima discussed ways on how the dealership can further raise awareness about owning and maintaining a Nissan Leaf.
“As a pioneer EV dealer, we face a challenging yet exciting task of educating our community on the benefits of sustainable mobility. It takes passionate and dedicated people who believe in sustainable mobility to make EV adoption and a reality,” Gateway Group Executive Vice President Michael Goho said. Gateway Group is Nissan’s official EV dealership partner.
The Nissan Leaf is currently available in six dealerships across the country: Nissan Cebu, Nissan Mantrade Makati, Nissan Otis Manila, Nissan Bonifacio Global City, Nissan Tagum, and Nissan Matina.
These six Nissan EV dealerships are all equipped with charging stations exclusive for Leaf owners. With this, Nissan now has the widest and largest EV charging infrastructure network in the Philippines. This network is expected to continuously grow as Nissan is set to make the Leaf available in more parts of the country in the future.
To put its electrification strategy into action, Nissan is currently searching for potential partners to amplify its goal of developing a sustainable society. The company is planning to work with the government and the private sector as the next step toward fully accomplishing its vision.
According to Najima, the brand’s “Blue Switch” program in Japan could be the next step of the company’s electrification strategy in the Philippines. Launched in 2018, the Blue Switch project established partnerships with various private and public stakeholders in Japan to endorse the use of electric vehicles and tackle special concerns such as disaster response, energy management, climate change, and eco-tourism.
“We are not just offering our customers a zero-emissions vehicle with the Nissan Leaf, and a nationwide EV charging network through our EV dealerships. We are also looking at building a network of partners here in the Philippines for sustainability and resilience, unlocking the potential for EV technology to address social concerns,” Najima stated.
