Nissan Formula E Team to use blockchain technology to offset carbon footprint

MANILA: The Nissan Formula E Team has partnered with United Arab Emirates-based software company Coral for the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Coral specializes in offsetting carbon emissions through blockchain technology. The Nissan Formula E Team’s partnership with the software company is part of the Japanese carmaker’s efforts to adopt green technology advancements in the motorsport scene.

“When it came to choosing a partner to achieve our carbon neutrality goal, we wanted to make sure the trackability of our carbon offset is as accurate as possible. Coral's CO2 offset is met through the most advanced innovation and is achieved in a bulletproof way. We're looking forward to developing our relationship with Coral and working together for a greener future,” Nissan Formula E Team Managing Director and Team Principal Tommaso Volpe stated.

The Nissan Formula E Team and Coral will follow a Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Science Based Standards framework to evaluate the carbon footprint of the racing team and use a credit scheme to bring full transparency on the team’s carbon offset.

This partnership combines the Nissan Formula E Team’s wide reach with Coral’s transparent platform, which can help increase awareness on the importance of carbon credits and contribute to global decarbonization.

“We welcome the partnership and participation from the Nissan Formula E Team. This is an example to individuals and corporations that everyone should be able to take meaningful action in tackling climate change,” Coral Founder and Head of Strategy Daniele Sileri said.

Nissan Formula E Team cars will also feature the Coral logo throughout Season 10 as part of the partnership.
