Nissan investing US$500-M to turn Mississippi plant into EV production hub
MANILA: Nissan has shared details on how its Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant in Mississippi, USA will become a hub for electric vehicle (EV) production. Nissan Canton is being renovated with the latest EV manufacturing technologies in order to facilitate the production of two all-new all-electric vehicles.

The investment is backed up by strong collaborations with state, county, and local governments.
“For nearly two decades, Mississippians have kept our state at the forefront of the world’s automotive industry. The announcement that Nissan Canton is shifting some production to EVs further positions Mississippi as a leader in this crucial economic sector. We are a top state for automotive leaders, and this significant investment by Nissan in the Canton facility lets the world know that we are open for business and our workforce is ready to take on these in-demand jobs of the future,” Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves said.
The announcement reinforces Nissan Ambition 2030, which aims for 23 electrified Nissan and Infiniti models worldwide by 2030, including 15 all-electric vehicles.
Ambition 2030 will usher in a new era of electric vehicles and technological advancements It underlines Nissan’s goal to empower mobility and beyond for a cleaner and safer society, considering significant environmental, societal, and customer concerns.
Nissan has established a target of becoming carbon-neutral across its global operations and product life cycle by 2050 by exploring more breakthroughs in electrification and production technology. Nissan aims to make the 40% of its US vehicle sales fully electric by 2030.
Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant is celebrating 19 years of production operations this year. Since its launch in 2003, the plant has employed around 5,000 people and produced nearly five million vehicles. The Altima, Frontier, Titan, and Titan XD are currently being produced in the facility.
With this announcement, Nissan has now invested US$4 billion in the assembly plant. In total, the company has invested US$13 billion in its production operations in the US.
