MANILA: A Nissan Leaf is the star of the Christmas display at the Nissan Sunderland Plant, honoring the production of 250,000 units of the groundbreaking electric vehicle in the UK.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the V2X technology?

The Nissan Leaf's vehicle-to-grid technology returns energy management to the owner by transforming their car into a mobile energy hub. When needed, drivers can draw power from the battery of their car and feed it to the grid, their home, or their Christmas tree.
  • How much is the Nissan Leaf?

The Nissan Leaf is priced at P2.79 million.
  • The lights on the 32-foot Christmas tree and its glittering reindeer are being powered by the Nissan Leaf's battery using V2X (or V2X-MAS TREE) technology, showcasing the car's capacity to function as a mobile power plant.

“Passing a quarter of a million Nissan Leaf is a tremendous milestone, and demonstrates the electric vehicle manufacturing expertise we have built up at our plant over the past decade. This year we have completely electrified the plant’s lineup with the new versions of Qashqai and Juke launched, so lighting up the Christmas tree with our original EV is a spectacular and appropriate way to end 2022,” Nissan Sunderland Plant Vice President for Manufacturing Alan Johnson stated.

The Nissan Leaf's vehicle-to-grid technology, also known as vehicle-to-everything or V2X, returns energy management to the owner by transforming their car into a mobile energy hub. When needed, drivers can draw power from the battery of their car and feed it to the grid, their home, or their Christmas tree.

The technology enables full integration into the electricity grid, increasing the grid's capacity to handle renewable energy sources and enabling more efficient energy management.

    Nissan Leaf

When Nissan Leaf made its global debut more than a decade ago, it established the standard for the whole industry. It was once considered a risky move to venture into the electric vehicle market, but today, the majority of automakers have added an electrified model to their lineups. Nissan Leaf, which was at the vanguard of this initiative, truly blazed the way for electric vehicles.

Nissan Leaf was introduced in 2010. Since then, more than 605,000 units have been sold worldwide. Now in its third generation, it is still a great choice for customers as it is very efficient, comfortable, and practical with no tailpipe emissions.

The Nissan Leaf offers a modernized exterior and interior design with Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies that improves safety and convenience on the road.

This is one of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies included in the Nissan Leaf. Other technologies include Intelligent Forward Collision Warning with Intelligent Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning with Intelligent Lane Intervention, and Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection.

The Nissan Leaf’s electric powertrain can generate 150hp and 320Nm of torque.

The 40kWh lithium-ion battery of the Nissan Leaf has a range of up to 311km based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standards.

    Nissan Leaf

The latest iteration of the Nissan Leaf sports the new Nissan logo, a large grille, blacked-out headlamps, and 16-inch alloy wheels with geometric patterns. The Nissan Leaf is also equipped with an under-diffuser and rear spoiler.

The Nissan Leaf also comes with an Intelligent Rear View Mirror, giving customers more confidence and safety when driving.

The new Nissan Leaf can be fully charged in 15 to 18 hours using the standard universal charging cable and a dedicated wall outlet at home.

Last October, the latest iteration of the Nissan Leaf made its Philippine debut at the 10th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS). It is priced at P2.79 million.

The Nissan Leaf, which was built in Sunderland for more than 10 years, is the first mass-market electric vehicle in the world. The record-breaking Nissan Qashqai crossover is now available with Nissan's unique e-Power system, a first for the brand in Europe, while the Nissan Juke, its B-segment stablemate, is now outfitted with an advanced hybrid powertrain.

The Nissan Sunderland Plant serves as the home of EV36ZERO, a £1-billion flagship electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem that draws electric vehicles, renewable energy, and battery production together.
