Nissan Philippines calls cessation of the Santa Rosa plant a speculation

MANILA: Recent reports have suggested that Nissan is simply not doing great business in the automobile space. From April 2019 to June 2019, Nissan’s profits have declined by a huge 94%. Moving on, in the quest of enhancing the profits, the Japanese automaker is going to cut-off a total of 12,500 jobs around the globe. Besides, the annual production will also be reduced by 10% courtesy of the shut down of a few Nissan plants.

We recently covered a story on the same news and reported that the Santa Rosa, Laguna plant in the Philippines might just become one of the many scapegoats during the process. Nissan Philippines, however, has asserted that the news is mere speculation for now. Also, Nissan will be reducing production at the Sunderland facility in Europe. Furthermore, the automaker will also halt the sales of Infiniti vehicles in Western Europe by the year 2020.

While we already know that a total of 12,500 jobs will be cut down by Nissan, 6,400 posts have already been vacated according to Chief executive Hiroto Saikawa. Speaking more of the Santa Rosa plant in the country, Nissan Philippines has stated that the news is “all speculation at this point”. The automaker also mentioned that it is “too early to say” about the effects of the profit drop on the Philippine market.

Hence, all we can do for now is to stay patient and wait for Nissan Philippines to release an official statement on the future of the Santa Rosa plant in Laguna. We hope that both the facility and the jobs that the Filipinos have got because of the plant remain intact.
